This is only a small one. And in the grand scheme of things, not that important, but for me, for some reason, it's a very strong memory.
I was cycling in mainland Turkey, between Escashire and Antala. The landscape was quite barren and nearly desert-like, The temperature was hot but lovely, and I was having a good time.
I was looking at my maps and after being on quite a lot of rural roads, I saw a highway and was up for some good roads. So I head that way and to my surprise, the road is blocked off to cars. Fantastic. This is a bit of a risk though. This was a small stretch of highway around 50 km long, and if it's closed off, it's closed off for a reason. I felt like taking the risk,
I head down this highway, and there's nothing to be seen. The road is okay, a bit old and nothing incredible, but I’m happy and it's better than the roads id just been on. I cycle for about 3 km turn a bend and see some construction workers.
There are a few big trucks and that machine that lays down the tarmac. The road was being redone. And not only that, they had started at the other end, which meant that I had 47 km of beautifully new road, with no cars at all. Heavan.
